Super walk around Bray Head. Who are these Elites in Brussels that everyone is talking about? Are they, by any chance our democratically elected ministers or are they our civil servants? Are they European civil servants, who got their jobs through open competitions, competitions which are hugely transparent? Or are they the Commissioners appointed by our government? Granted their appointment is rarely based on ability but that is the system that we the Irish electorate support. Unless I am mistaken there is no one else. So could someone tell me who this elite is? Our Dail representatives are not a very intellectual bunch but we the people chose them. They are too provincial to be interested in European affairs, its easier to deal with old age pensions and traffic signs but that is the system that we the electorate support. A strong case can be made for the belief that our representatives reflect the interests of their electorate. I think we can safely say that our referendum on the Lisbon Treaty supports this belief.
